I am an English guy living in Brazil. I have recently chosen to focus my marketing and business skills and experience to create branded social enterprises that will make a difference to the world.
The brands will be ethical, and some campaign driven. Two projects will focus on fighting the cuases and symptoms of poverty. The emphasis will be on empowering the poor, and on sustainable solutions.
Artists Against Corruption (AAC) which will raise awareness of the link between corruption and poverty – “corruption is the greatest obstacle to overcoming poverty” (World Bank). It will expressing the problem using as many art forms as possible - music, dance, literature, photography, music etc.
Miniature Earth started as a video that tries to help people make sense of incomprehensible statistics about poverty, starvation, disease etc by reducing by rations the numbers to 100people. First published in 2001 the video produced over 3million website visits so far (2million in the last year) and is featured in over 83,000 blogs. I will be helping the founder turn the project into a social enterprise to raise money that will fund NGO´s that are fighting poverty in the 50 Least Developed Nations of the world (as defined by the United Nations), and in Brazil where the project was born.
BR-JAZZ is project to promote Brazilian jazz artists. As you may guess it is borm out of a passion for jazz and Brazilian music generally. The aim is to introduce this music to the world, and to help promote the artists involves. I guess it also shows there is a lighter side to my personality.
